CFYP Wellbeing Under 18’s Service

Who do we help?

The CFYP Wellbeing Under 18's Service (5 - 18 year olds) works with children, young people and families who are living with mild to moderate mental health difficulties in the Suffolk area.

The primary focus of our work is often around low mood and anxiety (including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Phobias).

What can we help with?

  • Feeling Down
  • Feeling Anxious
  • My child's fears and worries.
  • Sleeping Better.

How can you get help?

If aged 18 or under, talk to your GP, school, social worker or school nurse who can support you to be referred to our services. If aged between 16-18, a self-referral can be made online.

If you are a parent and wish to refer your child then you can refer as above or via the Emotional Wellbeing Hub.

Any referral into our service whether that be for Workshops or Assessment, please remember to use your child's name and details and not your own.

I am over 16 years old, who can I talk to?

Some young people (aged 16-18) may feel better suited to having support under the Adult Service which can be found here

What happens next?

Once a referral has been made you will be contacted by the Emotional Wellbeing Hub who will discuss what you are finding difficult and provide support and advice. In some circumstances they might feel having spoken to yourself that other services maybe more suitable in giving you the help you need which they will talk you through.

I have been referred to CFYP Wellbeing Under 18's, what do I do next?

Once a referral has been accepted by us we will send you a letter saying you are on our waiting list for assessment. A Primary Mental Health Worker will be in contact to arrange an assessment depending on waiting times.

Traditionally we have always offered face to face assessments which we endeavour to arrange in a private place in the area you live. However, currently due to Covid-19 restrictions the majority of assessments are offered virtually or over the phone.

What is an assessment?

Our feelings can be complicated, and it can be difficult to talk about these or understand why we have them. Our assessments are a conversation with you and your family about what's going on for you, what you want help with and we will share what we think will help you feel better and why.

I don't want my parents to know, will you tell them?

Confidentiality is important to all of us, in most circumstances everything we discuss will remain within our service and will be shared only with your GP.

Some difficulties are challenging to overcome on our own so we may encourage and support you to talk to your parents, school or other important people in your life if we feel this will help you.

If you are at risk to yourself or others then we will need to speak to people outside our service (such as your parents/guardian/external services) to ensure everyone is safe.
